“What does it mean to index independent art spaces—not merely as a cataloguing exercise, but as a critical method? Across three days, this discursive program uses the index as both a practical and conceptual tool: a way of locating, situating, and moving through ideas that resist neat categorisation.

Each day takes a different positional stance. Toward asks how independent spaces cultivate criticality from within conditions of precarity, embracing unpredictability as methodology rather than obstacle. In Relation examines how architecture is never a neutral backdrop but an active participant in the production of meaning, and how independent spaces navigate—and think—the environments they inhabit. Beyond explores the limits of institutional language, asking what alternative textual and discursive strategies emerge when spaces are free to determine how, when, and whether text appears at all.

Together, the three days propose that indexing is not a passive act of listing but an active, positional practice—one that independent spaces are uniquely placed to perform.”
