Indexing as Method, Day 2: In relation to architecture
Independent art spaces rarely have the luxury of the neutral white cube—architectural contexts are assertive and meaning-producing. Drawing on Dan Graham and James Meyer, this discussion asks how curators and artists work with rather than against prescribed architectural environments. Ornate moldings, domestic scale, or industrial ruin are not obstacles but active participants in the exhibition. Independent spaces may ultimately offer a more honest acknowledgment of the inescapable relationship between art, architecture, and display.
