SUMMARY:Indexing as Method\, Day 1: Towards the criticality of independent
 spaces (Independent Space Index 2026)
DESCRIPTION:<p>Independent spaces operate not from a position of external j
udgment\, but from within a state of simultaneous empowerment and disempow
erment—knowing the problems of precarity\, instrumentalization\, and sel
f-exploitation while continuing to work anyway. Drawing on Irit Rogoff's d
 istinction between <em>critique </em>and <em>criticality</em>\, this discu
ssion proposes that independent spaces embrace spontaneity and unpredictab
ility not merely as necessity but as methodology\, refusing conventional m
etrics and measurement systems. The question is not how to achieve stabili
ty\, but how to inhabit precarious conditions differently and produce know
ledge from within them.</p><p>Panelists:<br>Natalija Paunić (Autokomanda
\, Belgrade)<br>Attilia Fattori Franchini &amp\; Christina Linher (Kunstve
 rein Gartenhaus\, Vienna)<br>Gina Merz (Kunstverein Kevin\, Vienna)</p>
