Indexing as Method, Day 3: Beyond the limits ot the text
Unlike institutions bound by press releases and catalogue essays, independent spaces have the freedom to rethink if, how, and when text appears. This discussion examines the alternative textual strategies that emerge from this latitude—reading groups, publications-as-exhibitions, language as medium. It also asks how critical writing about independent spaces should differ from conventional art criticism, given their different scales and temporalities. Textual freedom is both an opportunity and a responsibility.
Panelists:
Franz Thalmair (independent, Kunstraum Lakeside, Klagenfurt)
Bryony Dawson (independent writer, Vienna)
Alicja Melzacka (CELADOR, Brussels)
Bea Ortega Botas (JUF, NYC & Vienna)
Our festival center is at Kunsthalle Wien Karlsplatz. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, there will be panel discussions starting at noon. Guided tours start here every day at 1:45 pm.
Join us to discuss scene identities and artistic positioning. Meet the operators of Vienna’s independent spaces, get to know the festival team, and compare notes with fellow festival goers.
The exhibition “Lebt und arbeitet in Wien” is on view at the same time.
