Beziehungsfelder

4.5.–13.6.2026

Nikolaus Gansterer, Apollon Glykas & Ilias Sipsas, Simona Obholzer, Julian Rosefeldt, Ksenia Yurkova

Existence does not unfold in isolation, but through relationships. People, things, and the environment are woven into a network of complex and dynamic fields of relationships. Through continuous processes of action and interaction, these relationships are constantly shifting. Identities take shape, stabilities emerge, and dependencies or ruptures occur. Within this network of relationships, individuals are prompted to reflect on questions and possibilities regarding responsibility, decision-making, and boundaries. Some of the artists place artworks or performative actions in relation to objects, materials, bodies, space, gaze, and/or the viewers. Others engage in the collaborative framework of artistic cooperation. Furthermore, the exhibition explores how people are shaped by their relationship to history, culture, and politics, and what tensions may arise between personal memories or experiences and public structures.

FOTOGALERIE WIEN is constituted as an “association for the promotion of artistic photography and new media” and sees itself as an information gallery. Founded in 1981 by Josef Wais, seven artists began exhibiting in the current premises of FOTOGALERIE WIEN in the Werkstätten- und Kulturhaus (WUK) in 1982. The aim then, as now, was to show contemporary photographic art, interdisciplinary projects and new media. Today, a team of ten artists and theorists curate thematic exhibitions based on numerous submissions and ideas.
