Longing and wanderlust as a collective musical experience: In the spring of 2026, the ‘MusikarbeiterInnenkapelle’ will become the ‘Temporary Dockworkers’ Band’ at the ‘Werft Nordwest’ near Nordwestbahnhof. Where a branch of the Danube once flowed, the musicians invite you to an open rehearsal and a joint concert with a workshop-style format. The program includes songs of longing such as “La Paloma,” as well as sailors’ and workers’ songs. The workshop is designed as a participatory rehearsal/concert and is open to all skill levels.
The performance features a traditional brass band lineup. Wind instruments, as well as harmonicas, percussion, singers, your own ideas, arrangements, etc., are welcome!
Under the label “Museum Nordwestbahnhof,” Tracing Spaces collects narratives and artifacts from the rich history of Vienna’s Nordwestbahnhof, which are made accessible to a wider audience through various exhibition formats both indoors and on the vacant lot of the decommissioned freight terminal. The long-term goal of this initiative is to reintegrate these narratives as identity-forming markers into the newly emerging urban development area here and to establish the museum as a local cultural center in one of the historic warehouses on the site.
